The Perfect Fall Songs: Staff Picks

The leaves are finally starting to change color and the much anticipated chill in the air is finally making its debut. It's almost time for pumpkin carving, scary movies and hot chocolate under a warm blanket. With the perfect fall season on it's way, the need for a perfect fall playlist is imminent. We asked our staff for their favorite fall songs and collected a list to help any fall lovers curate a playlist that welcomes the season with open arms.

"Duvet" by boa

Pick by Victoria Marx: writer

The pairing of the ethereal production and slight angst feels transcendent and nostalgic, similar to the transition from summer to fall.

"Cherry-Coloured Funk" by Cocteau Twins

Pick by Lauren Tolliver: General Manager, show host, writer

Fall is at its peak when I’m taking a late night walk under dim street lamps, stepping on leaves and listening to this song. It’s got this echoey, ethereal sound that makes me feel like I’m in a movie.

"Blue Ridge Mountains" by Fleet Foxes

Pick by Eoin Young: Business Manager

This song is the perfect fall song because its acoustic sound evokes the earthy and crisp atmosphere of the season. The imagery of misty mountains and changing landscapes creates a cozy, nostalgic vibe that reminds me why I love fall.

"The Workplace" by Jim O’Rourke

Pick by JJ Wiparina: writer

Like a lullaby to the fallen leaves, Jim O’Rourke soothes the mind, body and soul with a gentle embrace of innocent and contemplative lyrics.

"Pink Moon" by Nick Drake

Pick by Braeden Pelko: writer

It’s short and sweet. The acoustic guitar and soft, bright vocals make it perfect for a nice and cool fall evening.

"Homebody" by PH-1

Pick by Karla Garcia: writer

This song represents all the “homebodies” who need to sit in the cold, sip tea and watch the leaves fall while vibing to good music.

"Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears

Gwen Engelhart: Marketing Director, editor, show host

Every October, without fail, I rewatch Donnie Darko. Jake Gyllenhaal, surrealism and Tears for Fears’ “Head Over Heels” perfectly set the tone for the fall season.

"Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart

Pick by Megan Harrison: Senior Editor, writer

This song reminds me of fall in Stranger Things, specifically at the Halloween party in season two. It captures the essence of a chilly fall night with its synths and upbeat tempo.
